The Deputy Chief Minister and State PWD Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya also suspended four officials who were looking after the fly over construction in Varanasi.

An FIR was lodged against the UP Bridge Corporation Limited, its officials and contractors for culpable homicide in connection with flyover collapse tragedy in which 25 people were killed and more than 25 others were injured.

The Deputy Chief Minister and State PWD Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya also suspended four officials who were looking after the fly over construction in Varanasi. They included Chief Project Manager H.C. Tiwari, Project Manager K.R. Soodan, Assistant Engineer Rajendra Singh and Junior Engineer Lal Chand.

In less than 24 hours after suspension of officers in connection with the Varanasi tragedy, the Yogi Adityanath government has posted A.K. Srivastava and Sandeep Gupta as the new Chief Project Officer and Project Officer to complete the construction of the flyover with all safety measures and regulations.

The Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who visited the site in Varanasi on the intervening Tuesday-Wednesday night ordered for lodging an FIR against those responsible. On his direction, an FIR was registered on Wednesday at Sigra Police Station under Sections Sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) of the IPC against UP Bridge Corporation, its engineers and contractors.

The District Magistrate Yogeshwar Ram Mishra suspended a sweeper of the mortuary at BHU Hospital when a video, containing visuals of the sweeper taking money from relatives for handing over body after the post-mortem, got viral on the social media.

Earlier, relatives had alleged that mortuary staff had demanded Rs 200 to 300 for handing over bodies. “A probe was ordered and sweeper was found taking the money. He has been suspended and an FIR  has been lodged against him,” said the DM.

Headed by the APC Raj Pratap Singh, the three-member probe committee also visited the accident site along with a forensic team. They have taken samples of the iron bars and construction material to check the quality of construction. A drone camera was also pressed to take aerial shots of the under-construction flyover.

After seeing the visuals of the drone camera, the team members were shocked to find that many beams were placed without inter-locking them with one another. As directed by the CM, the team will submit its report on Thursday night or Friday morning. Prima facie, it found negligence on part of the UP Bridge Corporation Limited.
