Will complain to EC, seek CRPF protection: Sumalatha

Sumalatha maintained that she did not have faith in the Karnataka police

Ms Sumalatha Ambareesh, who is contesting as an independent from Mandya, said on Friday that she would file a complaint with the Election Commission against Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy for accusing her of engineering the stone-pelting at her rallies.

"Kumaraswamy's statement is very provocative and speaks of a hidden threat to my life, Abhishek Gowda (son) and stars, Darshan Tugudeepa and Yash. The JD(S) leaders are ready to go to any extent to harm us. So, I have decided to file a complaint against the CM with the Election Commission and seek CRPF protection for my family and the actors,” she said.

Sumalatha maintained that she did not have faith in the Karnataka police, who “danced to the tune of the coalition government,” and argued this was evident by the police caning her workers and threatening them with cases if they continued to support her.

“Businessmen who are supporting me, have been threatened with cancellation of their trade licences in Mandya. A kind of fear psychosis had been created in the district under the leadership of Kumaraswamy,” she charged.

On the stone throwing theory of Kumaraswamy, Sumalatha said his party may have already plotted to stone her rally on April 16. “The CM has realised his son, Nikhil is on a losing wicket and so has resorted to intimidating his opponents,” she alleged.

Taking on Sumalatha, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy had said here on Thursday that she was playing out a new movie script of enacting a drama of stone pelting on her rally during the fag end of the campaign to gain the sympathy of Mandya voters.

Addressing an election rally in Maddur taluk, he accused Sumalatha of planning such “tricks” to tarnish his party’s image.” She is ready to go any extent and later blames the JD(S). But we don't indulge in such cheap gimmicks and seek the support of people on the basis of the performance of our coalition government over the last 11 months," he added.

As for his son, the Chief Minister claimed that all political parties had united to defeat him, but they would not succeed as he enjoyed the love and affection of the people of the constituency.
